For the past 5 weeks, the 6th Grade has been learning about the election process in their social studies class. Each "political party" (homeroom) started out with multiple candidates. Each candidate wrote a speech explaining to their homeroom why they would be the best candidate. After the political parties voted on the candidate to represent their homeroom, the class split into committees to help advertise, campaign, and budget for their candidates. The two candidates were William Shumaker, of the Furious Flamingo party, and Jon Steffanni, of the Workman Warrior party.
Shumaker and Steffanni went head-to-head in a school-wide debate on Monday. After a tremendous amount of work from all of the 6th graders, grades 1-6 voted on Election Day for Jon Steffanni to be their next Student Body President. Weston Davis will work with Steffanni as our Student Body Vice President for this school year. William Shumaker and Jude Miller will assist as advisors. Congratulations to all involved!
