Dear Flyer Family,
There are a few moments that will leave a lasting impression on my future ministry, and being with the students at the end of their fall sports season is certainly one of them. When I see the football team come together and claim the conference title at the end of their season, I am proud of them and grateful to have been present at every game to see them through. When I see the cross country team, I think of my own experience running in high school, especially when my own team qualified for regionals at Tiffin, too. When I thought I had missed the last volleyball game of the season, our girls performed so well together that I had another chance to cheer them on last week! But the point of all of this is that we have “run so as to win,” as St. Paul puts it. He goes on to say, “I do not run aimlessly (1 Corinthians 9:26).” If we take what we have learned on the team forward into life, we will know the mission that God gives us and we will run for it.
As I have been making my way around to each of the classes, I have had the joy to share a little about my own vocation story with the students. A couple weeks ago, Father Jeremy Miller, our priest at the University of Toledo, spoke to us about the importance of answering God’s call in life. It is important to talk about “vocation” even when we talk about things like dream jobs or college. The Church asks each of us to find our calling and to be on mission wherever we are. Bishop Thomas recently asked the Church in Toledo to pray for vocations, even if it is just one Hail Mary a day. Consider asking God to show all of us what he wants to do in our lives!
God bless our students!
