Principal Update:
Earlier this week, I was fortunate to serve as substitute advisor for the championship rounds of the Junior High Academic Challenge at BGSU Firelands. Our 8th grade team consisting of Noah Alt and Owen Fries went against teams from Perkins, Clyde, and Port Clinton. Our two-man team beat the much larger teams in 4 rounds of competition to bring home 1st place. Noah and Owen’s accomplishment (and relief) is visible in a picture that was on the front page of the Norwalk Reflector and captures a great moment and experience for them, their families, and our school. I am proud of all their hard work and that of their advisor, Mrs. Anna Rein-Hainline that went into this great accomplishment. Great job Noah and Owen!
This week after Mass we presented our Leadership by Example Awards. I continue to be proud of our students embracing our culture of what it means to be a Flyer. The students recognized are all great examples of leadership, kindness, and excellence in our school. We had several nominations and am proud to recognize our recipients for this semester: Calla Ryan - 7th grade, Aubrie Van Dresser - 8th grade, Molly McFadden - 9th grade, Kennedie Frazee - 10th grade, Landon Fries - 11th grade, and our senior class recipient is Fletcher Ross. Congratulations to these students who have earned distinction as Flyers of Excellence. Well earned and thank you!
Looking ahead to next week, Monday we will be celebrating an All School Mass as it is a Holy Day of Obligation. Next week will be our last week prior to our exams which will start on Wednesday, December 18th. A lot of activities are taking place in and around campus. Great things continue to happen and the school year is soon to be at the halfway point. As partners in your child’s education, let’s continue to work together to keep them focused on maximizing their time in the classroom, being in school, and completing and turning in their assignments on time. Next week will be very busy in preparation for exams and the end of the semester.
This Advent season our students will be holding a collection drive. It is important we help our students to understand not just the needs within our own community, but the impact they can make in the lives of others. Please consider donating items for this drive. Thank you. Have a wonderful weekend.
Gratefully,
Mike Gocsik Principal
